PRACTICUM FOR DEVELOPMENT
OF INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES
(1 TO 3 CREDITS)

COURSE SUMMARY & OVERVIEW

Independent research and development of curriculum activities and materials for instructional use. This course may be attempted as a separate independent program or as a follow-up to attendance at an organized professional training experience. It is designed to enhance and enrich instructional objectives and content based on activities developed.
All activities and projects must be teacher developed and produced.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

For each semester credit, participant will select, develop and report on five (5) learning activities, games, kits, programs, etc., prepared for use in their classroom or program. (OR) Special projects, units, etc., with prior approval.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

  1. For each credit, select five different activities or learning centers appropriate for implementation in your classroom.
    (1 credit=5 activities); (2 credits=10 activities); (3 credits=15 activities).

  2. Utilizing the method of construction or delivery of your choice, develop and construct the activities, centers or projects.
  3. All activities must be TEACHER MADE, no commercial worksheets or activities accepted.
  4. All course work must be developed on your PERSONAL TIME. No credit can be earned for compensated professional time.
  5. Field-test (or describe future implementation of) each activity, center or project within your own teaching situation or program.
  6. Write a report on each activity, center or project you have developed.
    (See REPORT REQUIREMENT).
  7. Submit a chronological log or summary of total hours per credit. (15 academic hours required per credit). Include dates, times and specifically what you did.

SOURCE OPTIONS

  1. Develop your own ORIGINAL ideas.
  2. Copy any of the ideas directly from "Dr. Allan's" national best-selling activities funbook,
    "101 FANTASTIC FUNSHOP FAVORITES". For book availability select this link, link on Home Page or call (949) 646-9696 directly.
  3. Develop ideas from any other source; books, workshops, etc., but MODIFY, CHANGE or ADAPT the activity.
  4. Use any combination of the above three options.

DUE DATE

Participant may select completion date based upon need. Extensions granted upon request.

METHOD OF EVALUATION

Initial contact with instructor, or by submission of course registration form, and by subsequent contacts, or through presentation of completed course work.

COSTS

$79 per unit or credit. A check made payable to UNIVERSITY OF THE PACIFIC must accompany the registration form. Mastercard, Visa accepted.

REPORT REQUIREMENTS

  1. Each of the (5) five learning activities, learning centers or projects, per credit, are to be written up separately. Minimum of one full page, single spaced, (typewritten) on each activity. Each write-up should include:
    1. Source (See SOURCE OPTIONS) and description of activity, center or project.
    2. Indicate the population target of the activity: Grade level, type of class, groups, etc.
    3. State objectives, goals, evaluation methods utilized, outcomes & reactions.
  2. On a separate page, following each write-up, include a photograph of activity or samples of teacher-made worksheets, etc.
  3. Prepare a separate title page for each course in which you are enrolled, including; course title and number, your name, your social security number, and the date and put in a folder with all write-ups for that course.
  4. Prepare a separate page containing chronological log or summary of total hours per credit. (See COURSE REQUIREMENTS).
  5. Note: Those enrolled in these courses concurrently should use separate folders for each course.

REPORT SUBMISSION

  1. Upon completion of all course work, mail report in a large envelope to:

  2. (DO NOT SEND BY REGISTERED OR CERTIFIED MAIL!)
  3. For verification of receipt, please include a self addressed, STAMPED postcard back to yourself.
  4. Participants are to keep a copy of all reports in the unlikely event that materials are lost in the mail. Report materials become a confidential university record and are not returned.
  5. Reports may not be submitted by FAX or E-mail.
